Return of the Rickenbacker

Good news everyone. Peter Buck’s Rickenbacker is now back with its owner. The full story I’m sure would be a movie-worthy tale, but all we know is that it’s back with Peter and I’m sure not leaving his hotel room on this tour.

A cool thing is that the audience tonight in Luxembourg printed out paper spelling out “RETURN OF THE RICKENBACKER” and held them up at the beginning of the show. Now those are some fans! It’s kind of funny how talismanic the Rick 360 has become in music/culture. The jangle of the Rickenbacker is so synonymous with the early 80′s sound from both Johnny Marr and Peter Buck that its like the instrument is a living extension of the musician.

Great news. But don’t forget that a Rickenbacker was also the foundation signature sound of another very influential band:
    Motorhead.

I think the opening twang on the Beatles Hard Days Night may be Rickenbacker too. John Lennon was playing a Rickenbacker back then. Way Way Back Then.

And of course perhaps the most well-known Rickenbacker player is Roger McGuinn and his twelve string.

Anyway, this is great news and I’m really happy for Peter and the band.
