The best commercial for Apple, ever

I was just up in a meeting where the presenter was using a PC. It kept having problems, and the presentation in general just was ugly. At one point after a glitch, someone said “Well, that’s what you get for using a PC.”

This got me thinking:

The best endorsement you can possibly have for the Apple line of computers is a PC running Windows.

Windows is the best commercial Apple could possibly have.

Truth speaks: had a laptop with MS XP, nothing worked the way i want it, not mentioning XP talks to her mothership any time i was online.
Bought an Apple Macbook Pro: Everything works, despite of talking to the Apple mothership.

What would someone in the room say if the presenter was using a MacBook that was plagued with the random reboot bug? Have you really never seen a Mac crash? Or an ugly presentation on a Mac?

I’m a network admin. I support and use both Mac’s and PC’s – and I have as many problems with the Mac’s in the office as with the PC’s. And I’ll say this: when the PC’s do have some major issue or problem, they are generally easier to fix than a Mac.

Your post just strikes me as being a tad bit elitist. The choice of an operating system is about style, and personal preference. It’s about using what supports the tools you need to Get Things Done, and using what works for you. One operating system is not “better” than another.

I’ve used Mac’s and PC’s in many contexts for 25 years. I also support a dozen or so departmental Mac’s, and as many PC’s.

If my post is elitist, its because its true.

And I’m elitist. I never made any statements that I was otherwise.

    To answer your question:

I have had Mac’s do the black screen of death (kernel panic). Mac’s generally recover from app level crashes much better than PC’s however.

And in my experience, Mac’s are much much easier to fix than PC’s.

Oh, and if a Mac user had an ugly presentation I’d slip them a copy of keynote and tell them it’ll be OK.

  4. I think I may have missed my point. I (honestly) didn’t mean to bring up the played out Mac vs. PC debate. Different strokes for different folks.

I just think that using actual use scenarios as the basis for a commercial wouldn’t work out well for anyone.

PC Commercial: “Check out all my Spyware!”
MacBook Commercial: “I run extremely hot, and I reboot randomly!”

And, for what it’s worth… when I make presentations I’m pretty sure they’re ugly no matter what platform I use – even with Keynote.

You’re an elitist, I’m just self deprecating.
