If you installed an Asterisk ip-pbx system (www.asterisk.org) then you can build paging into either handsets (eg just use the cat 5 or wireless already in your house) or whole of house speaker system from the soundcard.

The best part is you can configure paging zones, downstairs, upstairs etc.

...or if you really want to get cool - how about a front doorbell speakerphone that you can answer anywhere in the world http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk phone door
