Yes, forums are a pain in the ass to maintain, but they are a pain in the ass BECAUSE they are so essential to direct mimicry of traditional manners of discourse and community through text and image juxtaposition. What this means is that they matter, they are needed and they are among the oldest forms of community building tools out there. Just because they are a difficult, and “old” doesn’t mean Linden should abandon them. They are just as fundamental to online community as packets are to the Internet.
