People will start creating viral video specifically to get on said shows. Then the style gets cliched, and people make videos like it to be post-modern and ironic.
The fad dies, and hegemony wins again.

OMG, that’s brilliant. I’m struggling because I really used to like some things, and then they got enveloped in this fog of postmodernism (which I sometimes like) and globalisation, and I’m getting confused. For example, I love R.E.M., and I love their politics and that they care about Africa, but am I supposed to buy their music (and give them my money) when I could be buying South African music and supporting local artists (ok, well that’s more about postcolonialism, but you get the idea)? Or Live 8, which was supposed to be about Africa but was not broadcast to most of Africa, nor were African musicians given much of a chance to show their talent. Or Nirvana, for that matter…
