Music + Technology + Random Nonsense from the Music Industry by Ethan Kaplan, VP Product, Live Nation

A day with tide

Today, being the last “class” of the quarter for one of my classes, we met at the beach. Fun times had by all quite frankly, including the reveleation that *shock* some grads talk about me behind my back. Read down a few posts for what I think about that (hint, it involves Kinko’s night shift workers).

Tomorrow is a friends show, which should be fun. The art is fantastic: cohesive, precise, conceptually intense and fun to look at. Pure awesome. Also tomorrow someone is coming to look at our place to rent. I have to tell them that it normally doesn’t look like this. Right now there are boxes everywhere, furniture is in odd places, the offce is in shambles, etc.

Today we removed and packed all electronic devices, including my G5, assorted things and cables. While I’m letting the movers pack the stereo and stuff, I packed the G5 and cinema displays as well as all the cables. Right now we’re sorting through cables as well as throwing a lot of stuff away. Without the big computer, distractions are at a minimum and its easier to work.

Insofar as school is concerned, I’m done with it. I cleaned out my studio, my boxes, my stuff and my life from the confines of the University. I graduate officially on June 11th. I will be back sometimes next year to give lectures and maybe to some of my former student’s openings.

I did have a fun time this week kind of starting my job early for one of the band’s I’ll be working for (hint, they have a bald lead singer). I had to do some research on how to do video on demand on cell phones over 2.5G and 3G networks. It turns out that not only is it possible, its actually quite easy. I wrote up a report, sent it off and I have a feeling that come June 20th it’ll be one of the first jobs I have.

I also got a call from the Company today confirming the computers and communication devices I’ll need. They include a G5, a PC and a Blackberry. All waiting, nice and new on my desk. Happiness.

The drama with school now is to the point of amusing rather than tiresome. The lives these people lead is so sad and pathetic. It makes me smile.
